He King Charles III of the United Kingdom conferred on Prince Edward he duchy of edinburgh on the occasion of the 59th birthday this Friday of his younger brother, who thus receives the title held by their father.
Eduardo will benefit from it for life -but, as has happened so far, it will then return to the Crown-, indicates a press release published by Buckingham Palace.
The prince Felipedied on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99, received the title in 1947after his marriage to princess elizabethwho was Duchess of Edinburgh before coming to the throne in 1952.
They were previously Dukes of Edinburgh Prince Federico, eldest son of King George II, in 1726; Prince William, brother of King George III, under the joint title of Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh, in 1764; and Prince Alfred, second son of Queen Victoria, in 1866.

The new Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and his wife Sofia, “are proud to carry on Prince Philip’s legacy of promote opportunities for young people from all walks of life to reach their full potential“, reads the release, alluding to the youth programs associated with the title.
The couple’s eldest son, james15 years old, now becomes the Earl of Wessex -title that his father received when he married in 1999-, while there is no change for his sister and first-born, Lady Louise.
He Buckingham Palace announced that Charles III will be crowned May 6 at Westminster Abbey. Beside him his wife will be crowned Camilleas queen consort.

The ceremony will take place on the same day as her grandson’s fourth birthday, Archie, son of Harry and Megan, and it will be after a period of months of mourning following the death of his mother, Elizabeth II, on September 8, as a mark of respect. During this rite, you will receive the crown with him scepter and the the worldsymbols of his reign.
The religious rite, officiated by the Archbishop of CanterburyJustin Welby, “will reflect the role of monarch today and look to the future, while being rooted in pageantry and historical traditions,” the Palace described at the coronation of the 73-year-old monarch.
