Belgium: Young man dies fleeing police from Covid party in Antwerp

A 21-year-old young man died on Saturday night after falling out of a hotel window in the Belgian city of Antwerp when he tried to escape a police checkpoint for having participated in a party in which the measures against him were not respected. coronavirusthe prosecution reported this Sunday.

Police tried to resuscitate the individual before the arrival of emergency services, but he died.

The prosecution will appoint an investigating judge to clarify the exact circumstances of the death.

“I am shocked by the death of a young Antwerp resident last night,” declared the mayor of the city, the Flemish nationalist Bart De Wever, who expressed his “deepest condolences to his family and loved ones”.

In Borgerhout, a district of Antwerp, a woman was injured in the shoulder when she also jumped out of the window while trying to escape a police checkpoint for having participated in a party attended by sixteen people and which violated the rules against coronavirus.
