In the first month of the year, the economy with regard to automotive activity in the country fell by -2.16%, posting its second consecutive decline, reported the Automobile Association of Peru (AAP).
In this sense, the auto union explained that the fall in January is due to the decline in sales of motor vehicle parts, parts and accessoriesdue to lower demand for spare parts and higher tire prices.
“Similar recorded trend in the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and its parts, parts and accessories. However, the commercialization of light vehicles (off-road trucks, pick-up trucks, vans) has increased due to the normality of face-to-face activities (work, education and entertainment),” the AAP said.
Similarly, a similar situation has been experienced by the sale of heavy vehicles (trucks and tractors – trucks, minibuses, buses) due to demand from sectors such as construction, wholesale, manufacturing and passenger transport. . Similarly, the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles increased by Demand for mechanical repairs (engine and suspension) due to increased vehicle traffic.
For the automobile trade union, the result recorded in January of this year responds, to a large extent, to the increase in the social conflict in various parts of the country, the same as in February, although concentrated in certain regions only, so it is expected that a weak performance will also be reported in the second month.
“To this was added the weather changes along much of the Peruvian coast, causing increased rainfall and rivers to overflow, flooding important roads and making it difficult for land transport to pass. This would have significant consequences on the various economic activities, in addition to a possible increase in the price of products, mainly food,” said the AAP.
In this sense, the the first quarter of this year was quite difficultTherefore, it is of vital importance that the authorities urgently and effectively address the main issues plaguing the country,” the union said.
