On the afternoon of October 6, 2022, Oropeza left Yanamayo prison, in Puno, after the Judicial authority decided unanimously, last Thursday, September 29, to suspend the provisional execution of the 6-year sentence for the crime of illicit drug trafficking to the detriment of the State.
That day, he was seen rushing out of the prison without giving any statement to the press, as he got into a gray vehicle waiting for him outside the prison.
Previously, the nickname “Peruvian Tony Montana” had been admitted to the Challapalca prison in Tacna. Initially, an eight-year sentence was handed down, but it was later overturned and the judiciary handed down an effective six years in prison, which Yanamayo ended up serving.
Oropeza was arrested after an attack while in his luxury vehicle. He was named as a drug dealer, although he was not prosecuted for said crime as no drugs were found on him, but incriminating audio files were found on his cellphone. Oropeza has been accused of being the key to the international drug trafficking network responsible for sending drugs from Peru to Europe.
The popular “Peruvian Tony Montana” had the job of collecting and shipping drugs from VRAEM to Europe. Another of his duties was to check the quality of the medicine and ensure that the product arrived safely at its destination. He used containers and ships that departed from the port of Callao, which was his center of operations for his illicit trade.
Oropeza then made headlines after carrying out an attack on him. He was attacked with bullets and grenades while driving a luxury Porsche truck through San Miguel. Despite the fact that he managed to flee the shooting, it meant that his entire criminal organization and the war for drug power started in the first port were targeted by the drug police.
Judge Richard Concepción Carhuancho ordered the capture of Oropeza in the country and abroad for the alleged crime of conspiracy for illicit drug trafficking and he was arrested after several months of intense surveillance, in Ecuador while he bought an ice cream.
