On the morning of this Thursday, March 16, one of the vehicles of the national army was attacked with explosives on the road that connects the capital of Norte Santander to the municipality of Tibú, in the department.
Recently, military forces reported that the attack was unrelated to the visit of Defense Minister Iván Velásquez, who is in Cúcuta, the capital of Norte de Santander, to hold a security council following the situation of difficult public order prevailing in this territory. during weeks.
“The event in question occurred in Tibú and is not related to the visit of the Minister of Defense, who is in the city of Cúcuta,” the army reported through its team of press.
Likewise, they did not rule out that the attack was perpetrated by the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas through its GAO structure, which attacked the unit in Tibú when ” it was fulfilling its road safety mission and was on the road” near the town mentioned.
Although some versions assure that the event left two soldiers injured, the military forces have assured that, for the moment, they do not register any casualties. However, they are already investigating to confirm if this information is true.
“At the time, there was no effect on our soldiers or the civilian population, only some damage to our vehicles,” the institution said in a statement.
Similarly, the uniformed officers condemned the bombing which, as they explained, was intended to sow terror among the community and members of the Military Forces: “We reject these actions which flagrantly violate the provisions of international humanitarian law, making use of methods of warfare of indiscriminate unconventional attacks against the Force Publique and the civilian population,” the army said.
