At least 18 dead and almost 20 injured in two shootings in bars in South Africa

In total 18 people died and 19 were injured as a result of two shootings recorded in different locations in South Africa.

The first police report indicated that Fourteen people were killed in a gun attack at a Soweto barnear Johannesburg, in the east of the country.

“We received a call shortly after midnight,” said Lt. Elias Mawela of Gauteng province.

“When we arrived at the place there were 12 people dead,” he said. Eleven injured people were transported to a hospital, where two succumbed to their injuries. he added.

The security forces reported that in one of the attacks, two men got out of a car, entered the bar and opened fire at close range against customers.

The bar is located in the Orlando neighborhood of Soweto, the largest slum in Johannesburg.

later, Police also reported that four people died on Saturday night in a Pietermaritzburg barin eastern South Africa.

The shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. local time in a city bar, leaving four dead and eight wounded, local police spokesman Nqobile Gwala confirmed.

“Around 8:30 p.m., a group of people were drinking in a tavern, in front of which a car was parked,” the source said.

“Two men got out of a car, entered the bar and opened fire at close range against customers”he added.

Twelve people were hit by the shots. Two died on the spot and another two in the hospital, where eight people remain hospitalized.
