The national scene has been quite turbulent in recent days. From demonstrations, law enforcement operations against irregular mining, even illegal detentionsThey have the national government, led by Gustavo Petro, on the ropes.
Only six months have passed since the arrival of the new government and the problems it faces are multiplying and worsening. Between the plagues that have plagued the country for years and the reactions to the decisions of the president and his cabinet, things have not been looking good lately.
Last week, several problems put the authorities of the national order on high alert. The reactions to the health reform project is one of the questions that concern Gustavo Petro. On the other hand, the public order situations in the Caucasus and in San Vicente del Caguan.
Faced with these facts, on Saturday March 4, President Petro spent part of the morning answering various points and clarifying certain things.
On Friday, March 3, there were marches called by the Patients Colombia movement, which opposes several points of the health reform proposed by the national government. Former President Álvaro Uribe shared a video of the protests with the following message: “In Santa Marta, they defend the solidarity and mixed health system.”
Gustavo Petro responded with another trill in which he recalled that the Caribbean coast has been one of the regions most affected by the health system as it currently operates.
“Álvaro, the demonstrations when they wear the same shirt and the same posters sometimes do not sing reality. It is the Caribbean coast that needs doctors to return home and improve their public health centers in the corregimientos and municipalities,” Petro told Uribe.
“No health is more plundered than in the Colombian Caribbean. There health money was stolen in volumes that managed to finance paramilitary groups who later with health money killed the coastal populations. Remember that there were EPS in the hands of the paramilitaries“, he added.
It is noteworthy that before this, the high president had questioned the patients on the steps. “What bothers you about being able to bring doctors, nurses and vaccines to all Colombians?” he asked.
The public order situation in the Caucasus, in Antioquia, became complex on Friday March 3, when hooded men attacked the facilities of the city hall in the midst of a demonstration against operations against illegal mining.
Former presidential candidate Enrique Gómez accused the hooded men of belonging to “Petrist Collectives”. What the politician did not take into account is that the protests, precisely, are taking place against the national government for the interventions that are being carried out against irregular mining in the territory.
“#Denuncia From the Caucasus, we are informed that a group of bikers, apparently armed, are closing the company. Has the operation of the motorized petrist groups of @petrogustavo started? Every day, the support forces of the Pacte are becoming more and more National Socialist,” Gómez trilled.
For his part, the President of the Republic asked him not to slander. Moreover, he took the opportunity to point out that it is the armed groups that force citizens to demonstrate because their illegal income affects them.
“No, Monsieur Enrique, don’t slander us. The strike in northeast Antioquia is against the government. Instead, ask yourself who the bikes are and which GAO they belong to. They are forcing people to protest against the government because we are destroying their big illegal mining dredges.Peter wrote.
Regarding the slowdown in the rise in producer prices in recent months, the President of the Republic stressed that it is expected that “the inflation which decreases in relation to the producer price will affect the consumer price. Otherwise we would have phenomena of speculation that must be controlled”.
On the other hand, he spoke of alleged words of a journalist that he would like to put it against the courts.
“A right-wing journalist is trying to get me to fight the courts by repeating the anti-democratic mistake of previous governments. No sir, we told the courts that we were going to give the judiciary more budget, autonomy and more judges,” he said.
