BERLIN, Feb 16 (Reuters) – Around 1.1 million people arrived in Germany from Ukraine in 2022, surpassing the influx of migrants from the Middle East during the 2015 migration crisis, the Bundestag reported on Thursday. Federal Statistical Office for Germany.
Two-thirds of Ukrainian migrants arrived in the first three months after Russia invaded Ukraine between March and May last year, he said.
The data comes days before a year after the February 24 invasion that displaced millions of Ukrainians.
Excluding those who returned to Ukraine, immigration from Ukraine stood at 962,000 last year, more than the total of 834,000 who arrived from Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq combined between 2014 and 2016, he said.
This would make Ukrainian citizens the second largest foreign population in Germany in October 2022, after Turkish citizens.
