Residents of the town of Manzanillo, Colima received an unusual surprise after a 2.7 meter long crocodile was spotted wandering the streets of the “Las Fuentes” square of Barrio 4 Del Valle de las Garzas in the early hours of the night of last Tuesday, February 21.

The puma specimen is a female called “Chaca” and the crocodile is a male identified as “Foncho”
According to local media, elements of the municipal police responded to the call of the population, however, they did not dare approach the specimen due to its size reason for which the civil protection of the entity was notified.
Despite this, when Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel from Manzanillo arrived at the site of the sighting, the crocodile had already returned to the lagoon of Valle de las Garzas without any incident or attack of the reptile being recorded.
Until the time this note is written, neither the Civil Protection and Fire Department of Manzanillo nor the State of Colima provided details of the reptile sighting which alerted local residents.

However, through social networks it was spread the particular video where the crocodile of just over two meters is observed walking calmly through the streets of Barrio 4 Del Valle de las Garzas between the eyes of some curious people who observe the animal with astonishment.
In some recordings, it is even possible to enjoy an element of the municipal police who walks behind the reptile while protecting both the integrity of the animal and the people who observed it with astonishment.

In the same way we can see that while the crocodile was walking slowly, one of the people watching him lit the way with a flashlight which not only guided the reptile but also revealed its large size and the texture of its skin as it continued on its way.
It was only a matter of time before the video of the crocodile wandering the streets of Manzanillo will go viral on social mediacausing a great stir not only among local residents but also among users of social networks who were quick to joke about the situation.
“Take your pets on a leash, then you’ll have all the scares”; “HAHAHAHA no mam*n I’ll have a heart attack if I find him on the way home”; “Poor little animals, fortunately no one was injured and found their habitat”; “Thank God it didn’t end in tragedy, sometimes because of the same people they get angry and attack”, were some of the comments recovered from users of social networks.
Although after the recent sighting of the crocodile in the town of Manzanillo, the Civil Protection did not issue any statement, previously, recommendations had already been issued to safeguard both the integrity of the population and of the specimens themselves.
In this way, the Civil Protection Unit of the State of Colima called on local and national tourism to take precautions for crocodiles on the coasts of Armería, Manzanillo and Tecomán.
Among the recommendations issued by state authorities are:
1) Avoid approaching reptiles and keep a safe distance of at least 15 meters
2) Do not feed them or throw objects at them make them feel threatened
3) Immediately call the emergency number 911, Civil Protection or Public Safety
They also called for specialized personnel to be assigned to protect the area in case crocodiles are seen on the beach and, if he is in the water, it is recommended to keep as much distance as possible.
