Since the afternoon of this Friday, March 26, a video that has been circulating on social networks, is of a verbal attack by a man not wearing a mask to an official of the Public Space Ombudsman’s Office. The event occurred in Parque de la 93, in the El Chicó neighborhood, north of Bogotá.
The citizen, who was sitting on one of the park benches, without a mask, wearing headphones and looking at his cell phone, was rebuked by the officials of the Mayor’s Office, who asked him to put on the mask.
The request was not liked at all by the individual, who immediately responded in a grotesque way and insulted, with words of heavy caliber, to District workers.
The events were recorded by another citizen who was walking through that sector. In the images, the man is observed slapping the officials and yelling at them:
“Son of a b–ch. Get out of here rather. Stop bothering people. This city belongs to us, not to the four queers that this old woman hired (presumably referring to Mayor Claudia López)”.
Given the obvious refusal of the citizen, one of the officials of the Ombudsman asked the man not to yell at him. Immediately afterwards, the man ‘reconsidered’ and told him that the city belonged to everyone, that he (the worker) could also be there, but not “fu-king” it.
“Go away old man. No lies. You can also be here, but not screwing with me”, he sentenced.
The video, which was posted by Alejandra Rodríguez, director of the Public Space Ombudsman in Bogotá, it was quickly viralized on Twitter, where hundreds of netizens reproached the citizen’s actions and sent him several negative comments.
For its part, the senior official of the Ombudsman’s Office, in accompaniment with the video-complaint, described the fact as “unacceptable”, he categorically questioned it and sent a message to those who insult the officials of the Mayor’s Office.
“The Defenders of @DadepBogota are taking care of all of us and doing pedagogy. I resoundingly reject the rudeness and the attack that they were victims today in the 93rd park. In public space we must also take care of ourselves, the pandemic still continues”, urged Rodríguez.
Subsequently, the director of the Ombudsman’s Office spoke on the subject on the Noticias al Día portal and, again, sent a message of rejection against these acts of intolerance and disrespect.
“In Bogotá we cannot lower our guard and together we must take care to stop the arrival of the third peak of the pandemic. From the Public Space Ombudsman’s Office we strongly reject the aggression that our defenders of public space received today, in Parque de la 93, by a citizen. They are men and women who have risked their health and their lives to take care of each of the Bogota citizens. We ask them then, with the respect that we address to citizens, that they receive the same treatment,” said director Rodríguez.
Unacceptable!

Some of the comments received by the man who insulted the officials were in a humorous tone, where they assured that the “Gomelos”, as they described the author of the expletives, abound in Bogotá.
In addition, other citizens asked for respect for the collaborators of the Ombudsman’s Office, who, as they trilled, They work to promote the city and its inhabitants.
“So rare are people insulting the pedagogical teams”; “Juanpis González abound”; “It is very sad that there are people like this, who for telling them to take care of themselves have this type of behavior”; “The police should have called. Wearing a mask is an obligation”, were some of the comments on social networks.
Although most of the comments and reactions of the video were against the citizen, there were some Internet users who defended the man’s reaction, since they assure that, being in an open space, it is not necessary to wear a mask.
