The resolution is based on numbers 1 and 2 of article 129 of the Constitution of the Republic, on the possibility of impeachment of the president for crimes “against the security of the state” or for “concussion, corruption, embezzlement (embezzlement) or illicit enrichment”.

MP Viviana Veloz, who chairs the parliamentary committee, said in a Twitter post that the recommendation to prosecute Lasso also came at a time when the president has apparently lost the trust of the people.

“When trust in a leader ends, there is no choice but to change it. No people deserve to live in despair. Getting rid of the corruption of a bad president is not only a political obligation, it is an ethical and moral imperative. Ecuador hopes so!” added Veloz.

The legislative committee’s statement comes at a time when the government appears weakened after suffering an electoral defeat in local elections on February 5, while it was also beaten by the opposition in a referendum organized by the party. in power on issues such as security, democracy, and the environment, among others.
