A top Kremlin official has contacted Western diplomats and intelligence chiefs in a bid to help end the war in Ukraine.
A source close to the Russian government reportedly said that much of the Moscow elite is very concerned about the trajectory of President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the neighboring country and is alarmed by the extensive sanctions imposed by the West in response.
One document, allegedly distributed to Western intelligence agencies and seen by The Mirror, said: “A representative of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle sent a signal about the desire to negotiate. The mood of the Kremlin elite is one of panic.” , he claimed.
It is unclear which member of Moscow’s leadership may have undermined Putin’s plans, but the document allegedly described the insider as a “pillar of the regime” in Russia.
A Ukrainian diplomatic source told The Mirror that they would not be surprised to learn which high-level Kremlin officials are trying to connect with Western intelligence agencies behind Putin’s back.
“It usually happens, as happened in the aftermath of the Second World War, that the officials of one side concerned about their future take steps to ensure it,” the informant assured.
“If a high-level politician in Moscow were to publicly declare his desire for peace in Ukraine or criticize Putin, his life would be in extreme danger along with that of his family,” he added.
