Nariño, who is president of the Colombian Mining Association, will preside over the Latin American Mining Organization until 2025.
Economist Juan Camilo Nariño Alcocer was appointed to lead the Latin American Mining Agency (OLAMI), in which all the players in the region’s mining sector are represented and which includes 17 Latin American and Caribbean countries.
Nariño, who is an economist from the Javeriana University with a Master’s in Public Affairs and citizen participation, has extensive professional experience in high-level positions in the public and private sectors. Currently, he is the president of the Colombian Mining Association (ACM).
Nariño arrives with the objective of stimulating cooperation among its members and advancing the development of mining activity, within a framework of environmental sustainability and energy transition to which a large part of the countries of Latin America are committed.
This designation of Nariño comes at a time when the region wants to be the epicenter of the energy transition to mitigate climate change, as well as demonstrates the confidence that OLAMI member countries have in the leadership of the trade union leader in such matters.
For now, it has been confirmed that Nariño will remain in the direction of the Latin American Mining Agency until 2025.
