A bus carrying 57 irregular migrants in Panama from a shelter in Darién, on the border with Colombia, to another near Costa Rica, caught fire this Saturday on the Pan-American Highway, the country’s main highway, without causing any injuries or deaths, they reported to the immigration authorities.
The National Migration Service (SNM) of Panama explained that “in the early hours of this Saturday, February 25, the bus registered 5B-16, which was transporting 57 irregular migrants, caught fire without any of the passengers being hurt”.
Immigration authorities said “all passengers are safe, with prompt evacuation and adherence to established protocols for these situations.”
The event occurred on the Pan-American Highway, the country’s main highway, near Limón Seco, in the central province of Veraguas, as the bus was taking migrants to the Los Planes shelter, in Gualaca, in the province of Chiriquí. , border with Costa Rica, details the press release.
The SNM stressed that it “performs the corresponding coordination so that all passengers who have traveled on this bus are transferred to the Gualaca Immigration Reception Center so that they can then continue their journey to the United States “.
About ten days ago, another bus that was also transporting migrants from Darién to Chiriquí fell off a cliff near the Gualaca refuge, killing 39 people and injuring more than 20.
