Sports Writing, Feb. 16 Goals from Maite Oroz, Esther González and Fiamma gave the Spanish women’s football team a 3-0 victory over Jamaica (3-0) on Thursday, on the central coast of Gosford (Australia), on their debut in Nations Cup, where all doubts were lifted and La Roja gave off good feelings.

Spain passed the first test with flying colors, revealing quality details on the pitch and winning with solvency. Jorge Vilda, the Spanish coach, opted for an XI consisting of six Real Madrid players and left out Jenni Hermoso. Also, Paula Tomás, a Levante player, made her debut for La Roja.

After 15 minutes of scoring, Oroz was the one who opened the scoring, and he did it after a rebound from a shot by Zorzona that hit the crossbar and left the ball in the small area, with a shot easy on target.

The Jamaicans offered a solid defense which made Spain uncomfortable, but little by little La Roja took control of the game. Thus came the second goal, this time from the hand of Esther, very active throughout the match, after a superb pass from Cardona.

Fiamma took charge to make it 3-0 after 80 minutes. A powerful shot from the Valencia striker entered the top corner to end the game against the Jamaican side, Brazil’s World Cup rivals.

The next challenge for the Spaniards in the Nations Cup will be next Sunday against Australia, at the Commbank Stadium in Sydney at 8:00 a.m. Spanish time.

Spain formed with Enith Salón, Sheila, María Méndez, Ivana (Berta Pujadas, m.60), Paula Serer, Teresa Abelleira, Maite Oroz (Marta Carro, m.77), Claudia Zornoza (Fiamma, m.61), Cardona ( Eva Navarro, m.46), Esther González (Alba Redondo, m.46), Athenea del Castillo (Salma Paralluelo, m.46).
