25 children injured after the collapse of a bridge in poor condition in Magdalena

In the municipality of Guamal, Magdalena, a wooden bridge collapsed who was in a precarious state, while 25 students from the IED Sagrado Corazón de Jesús school as they went to study. The miners were rescued by relatives and other bystanders who were at the scene.

For now, this unfortunate fact does not mean seriously injuredno loss of life.

However, the community calls on the competent authorities to resolve quickly and build a new bridge on. It should be remembered that more than 100 students cross the bridge daily to follow their courses in the municipality of Guaimaral.

According to a mother, Ena Luz Morales, told local media Review 7, “Every year we don’t agree with student transportation, when it’s rainy season the kids go on the Johnson, when it’s summer we make handmade bridges” .

On the other hand, a resident of the neighborhood says: “We saw that the bridge was giving way and we ran to help the children. Some of them were in the water and couldn’t swim, so we had to get them out quickly,” Maria said.

It must be taken into account that the parents of the educational institution and the community fought for the construction of a new structure guaranteeing safety. For this reason, they make a new appeal to the Ministry of Education and the Government of Magdalena, because since the year 2019 they have obtained a conservatorship in which it has been established, by the Constitutional Court, however, the order has not yet been carried out and the students continue to cross the bridge.

So far, government authorities have not acted.

There Technical Directorate for Investigation of Accidents in Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) announced the opening of an investigation to determine the causes of the accident which occurred on the morning of Monday, March 6 in the vicinity of the Isabel village, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Martaor one plane crashed.

According to Santa Marta Policea small plane which carried out work of fumigation during banana cultivation crashed, leaving injured the pilot of the plane which was the only one traveling on board.

According to preliminary information from the authorities, the small plane attached to the company Aero Health Agricultural SAS (ASA) carried out fumigation activities in the municipalities of Banana Zone, Ciénaga, Santa Marta, Aracataca and Foundationwhen he apparently presented mechanical breakdowns in one of his wind turbines and dove to the ground before crashing.

As the area is in the dry season, the plane crash sparked a fire in the hills, so firefighters and local authorities had to work together to put out the flames.

Regarding the pilot of the plane, we also learned that he was identified as Leonardo Gutiérrez and that he is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital in the region.
