The U.S. Space Force Borrows a Title From the MCU

Vice President Mike Pence has announced that uniformed members of the American Space Force will be called Guardians, much like the MCU’s Cosmic Team.

President Donald Trump’s initiative to create a new branch of the US Army, the Space Force, to protect against interstellar threats, has taken another step by giving its uniformed members an official name. The name may be known to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe Guardians of the Galaxy Films.

A tweet of Defense One Editor Marcus Weisberger Reported that Vice President Mike Pence had announced that the members of the Space Force would be named Guardian, in the same way that US Army candidates are called soldiers and naval sailors.

The similarity of the MCU heroes to the Guardian of the Galaxy is particularly noticeable as they are the Guardian’s most famous cosmic team whose adventure is set in space or on distant planets.

James Gunn, writer and director Guardians of the Galaxy The franchise was quick to comment on the name, responding to the announcement with a tweet that simply read, “Can we sue this dork?” Actor Pom Clementieff, who plays Gardis in Gone, suggested that he use his sympathetic powers to “bring them all to sleep”, for which Gunn readily agreed.
