Former Bose employees N.B. Patil, Charles Taylor and Brian Mulcahey have founded a company called Ozlo and the first device they are bringing to market is a revamped and improved version of the Sleepbuds headphones.
Wireless headphones have become one of the must-have gadgets for a large number of users, especially since many of them use them as a sleep aid every night, as they often use white noise apps to listen to soothing sounds through them and fall asleep.
Well, on that note, we’ve just learned that three former employees of headphone and speaker brand Bose want to dominate this niche market and to achieve this, they’ve created the perfect headphones to wear while you sleep.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Ozlo Sleepbuds, headphones designed for your rest.
As revealed by The Verge, the three former Bose employees N.B. Patil, Charles Taylor and Brian Mulcahey have just founded a new company called Ozlo and the first product they are going to market under their new brand are the Ozlo Sleepbuds, wireless headphones that are designed to help you fall asleep.
In fact, these three former Bose employees have bought the Sleepbuds brand directly from Bose, since Bose launched the first headphones of this type about five years ago.
The Ozlo Sleepbuds are wireless headphones that inherit the design of the original Bose Sleepbuds, as they feature ear cushions that are very similar to Bose’s “StayHear” and a circular-shaped charging box with a USB-C charging port in which the only difference, at first glance, is the change of the Bose logo for the Ozlo logo.
But if we open this box, we see that this one is actually more advanced than the Bose Sleepbuds, because it includes light, sound and temperature sensors that the brand uses to understand your sleep environment and know what factors could prevent you from having a good night’s rest. In this regard, Ozlo has confirmed that its Sleepbuds feature “biometric sensing technology to monitor your movement and breathing while lying in bed to determine when you have fallen asleep and help understand your sleep stages.”
All this information collected by Ozlo is stored locally and is not automatically transmitted to any cloud storage service, although the user can manually share it with platforms such as Android Health Connect or Apple Health via the native app that has been developed for both Android and iOS.
But undoubtedly the big difference between the Ozlo Sleepbuds and the original Bose Sleepbuds is that the former also allow you to play music or podcasts, an option that was not available on the Bose headphones, as these only played masking sounds to help you sleep.
Likewise, the Ozlo Sleepbuds are also equipped with a battery that promises a battery life of about 10 hours, more than enough to last a night’s sleep. In addition, one of the creators of the Ozlo Sleepbuds, N.B. Patil, has confirmed that they have redesigned their sleep headphones with more up-to-date hardware than the Bose Sleepbuds.
The Ozlo Sleepbuds crowdfunding campaign has already raised over $10 million and these headphones are now available for purchase through the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo with a pack that includes two units of the same and costs $438. In addition, you can also buy a unit of these first Ozlo headphones on Kickstarter for a price of $229.
