Apple has embarked on a very large-scale operation by designing its in-house processor, with the first generation M1. In particular, it was necessary to manage the entire application ecosystem.

Launching a whole new kind of processor is no small feat. In addition to the technical challenge that this represents, we must think of all the applications that depend on these processors. Apple had the time to prepare and optimize its own software for this first chip Apple Silicon baptized M1. But it was necessary to use certain tricks for the good of the users.

Apple prevents the installation of iOS apps not intended for Mac M1

To help fill the initial lack of native apps developed for the M1 chip, Apple has allowed users to install iOS apps on M1 Macs. And while iOS apps weren’t necessarily optimized for PCs, laptops, or desktops, it did fill a very real void, although of course it was only temporary.

A change that may cringe some teeth

That being said, users who used this trick to install iOS apps will certainly be disappointed to learn that this is no longer possible, or at least not soon will be. Several reports mention that Apple has made server-side changes to prevent M1 Macs from downloading and installing unofficially supported iOS apps, applications that weren’t designed for Macs.

For those who do not understand what we are talking about, know that before this change, users could install iOS applications on their Mac through platforms like iMazing. This meant that even if a developer chose not to make their app available on a Mac M1, users could still download and install them. With these modifications, the Cupertino company makes these bypass methods impossible.

It’s hard to understand why Apple made this change. It is possible that installing applications not intended for the M1 chip could result in a much less than ideal experience for users, which the Apple brand obviously does not want. Or maybe it just could cause security concerns. Whatever the reason ultimately, owners of Mac M1 can no longer do it.
