Apple announced four iPhone 13 series models early on the 15th, two of which are the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, with screen sizes of 6.1 inches and 6.5 inches, respectively. It is configured to take over the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

The difference between the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max was not only the screen size, but certain camera features were limited to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. But this year, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are functionally equivalent, except for screen size and battery life.

Most notably, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have the same camera hardware.

In last year’s model, for example, regarding telescopic performance, the iPhone 12 Pro has “2x optical zoom in / 2x optical zoom out / 4x optical zoom range / up to 10x digital zoom”, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has “2.5x optical zoom”. Zoom in / 2x optical zoom out / 5x optical zoom range / up to 12x digital zoom. ”

However, both iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are side by side with “3x optical zoom-in / 2x optical zoom-out / 6x optical zoom range / up to 15x digital zoom”.

In addition, the sensor shift optical image stabilization function, which was exclusive to Pro Max last year, has been added to the Pro model this year (only ultra-wide-angle on the iPhone 12 generation, but ultra-wide-angle and telephoto on the iPhone 13 generation). Please check here that there are no other differences in functions and specifications.

It is speculated that the equivalent functionality of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max is partly due to advances in technology that “stores as many parts as the larger model in a smaller enclosure.”

In addition, the US 9to5Mac cites the most important reason as “users do not necessarily have to choose the largest and most expensive iPhone to use the best camera hardware,” which makes the 6.1-inch model more attractive. It’s true that the iPhone 12 Pro is big enough last year, but I’ve heard some users say that they closed their eyes to the huge size of the iPhone 12 Pro Max because it uses the advanced camera functions of the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Reservations for the iPhone 13 will start at 9 pm on September 17, and will go on sale September 24. There are about two days left before the reservation starts, but if you want to choose between the Pro models, you should carefully consider the screen size and battery life that suits your purpose by then.
