The next iPad Pro could have an OLED screen with an LTPO panel for a wider refresh rate

Currently, the range Apple iPad Pro consists of a large 12.9-inch model with a mini LED screen and an 11-inch model with a smaller, less expensive LCD screen. That being said, if DSCC co-founder and CEO Ross Young is to be believed, that may change with the next generation iPad Pro.

The next iPad Pro could have an OLED screen

According to the analyst, the Cupertino company could make a substantial update to these two tablet models using OLED screen technology.

This is the same technology found in other Apple brand products like the iPhone and Apple Watch. Ross Young’s report also cites a post from Korean site The Elec that claims LG is looking to become Apple’s OLED panel supplier.

With an LTPO panel for a wider refresh rate

The report also clarifies that the OLED screens could integrate LTPO panels, which are already used in the iPhone 13. By using such panels, the screen could be able to achieve higher refresh rates.

To put things into context, the current iPad Pro’s screen refresh rate ranges from 24-120Hz, unlike the iPhone 13 which can scale between 10-120Hz.

Being able to run at a refresh rate if low allows to consume less energy, which would allow the tablet to offer an even greater autonomy. No one knows, however, that the new generation of iPad Pro could be formalized by the Cupertino company. We will have to wait.

The last time Apple updated its iPad Pro was in 2021. The tablet was then entitled to a significant improvement in terms of performance with the integration of an M1 chip, for both variants , 12.9 and 11 inches.
