AMD gave more details of Ryzen 7000 at Computex, anticipating the features of its big launch in the second half of 2022.
AMD CEO Lisa Su showed off the first AMD processors under the Zen 4 architecture. These get a big change from rival Intel , as they arrive with a new socket: AM5 and made on a 5-nanometer process. AMD ‘s new processors will have double the L2 cache per core and higher clock speeds, promising 15% higher performance per core over their predecessors. AMD would also represent a big leap forward in clock speeds, showing off a pre-production Ryzen 7000 processor running at 5.5 GHz in a AAA game. According to the company, one of the new Ryzen 7000 is 30% faster than the Intel Core i9-12900K in a Blender workload.
New platform for new processor
Ryzen 7000 will require users to purchase new motherboards as it incorporates new technologies: DDR5 RAM and PCIe 5.0
AMD announced three new types of motherboards with socket AM5 for users.
- X670 Extreme with PCIe 5.0 in two video card slots and one storage slot.
- X670 with PCIe 5.0 in a storage slot and optional graphics.
- B650 with PCIe 5.0 support in storage, depending on motherboard manufacturer.
- AMD also indicated that its new generation of processors will have integrated graphics.
AMD will have news for laptops
Currently AMD has shown incremental changes to laptops under Ryzen 6000 , but the company has already teased its “Mendocino” processors. These will feature Zen 2 cores and RDNA 2 -based graphics for better battery life and performance. Regarding “Mendociono”, AMD assured that the first laptops with these processors will arrive in the last quarter of 2022.
