Game news Star Wars: An Open World Game Announced By Ubisoft And Lucasfilm Games

After the game Indiana Jones by Bethesda and MachineGames unveiled yesterday, the Lucasfilm Games label today announces a partnership with Ubisoft for the development of an open-world Star Wars game.

It is more precisely the Swedish studio Ubisoft Massive (The Division, but also the future game Avatar) which is in charge of the project. As the media announces Wired, this new Star Wars game is in the early stages of its development. The platforms on which it will be released are also not specified. We just know that he will be using Massive’s proprietary engine, the Snowdrop Engine, and that Julian Gerighty (The Division, The Crew) will be the Creative Director.

As a reminder, Electronic Arts had signed in 2013 an exclusive agreement with Disney concerning the development of Star Wars games, supposed to end in 2023. Lucasfilm Games, a label announced last Monday, is now free to seek other partners. “EA has been and will continue to be an important strategic partner for us. But we felt there was room for others.”said Sean Shoptaw, senior vice president of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney.

Yves Guillet, CEO of Ubisoft, also commented on this announcement:

The Star Wars galaxy is an incredible source of motivation to push our teams to innovate and push the limits of our environment. Building new worlds, characters and stories that will be a lasting part of Star Wars mythology is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are delighted that our Ubisoft Massive studio is working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original and different Star Wars adventure from everything that has been done before.
