Former two-division KSW champion Mateusz Gamrot earned his first UFC win on Saturday in dramatic fashion with a brutal second-round knockout.

After falling short in a split decision in his debut this past October, the Polish lightweight returned with a vengeance at UFC Vegas 23 where he cracked Scott Holtzman with a devastating right hand during an exchange on the feet that dropped the former hockey enforcer to the ground. From there, Gamrot just unloaded a flurry of punches to get the finish with referee Jason Herzog stopping the contest at 1:22 into the second round.

“Feel perfect,” Gamrot said following the win. “This is my first knockout in my career. I want to say to every fighter in my division, I’m coming for the top. I am really so happy.”

Best known for his wrestling and grappling, Gamrot was showing a lot of confidence in his hands while trading shots with Holtzman throughout the fight.

While Holtzman was constantly loading up with a massive uppercut that he threw numerous times, Gamrot was biding his time and looking to connect with more accuracy and still threatening with potential takedowns.

After tagging Holtzman with a hard shot behind the ear in the first round, Gamrot knew his punches were finding a home as he timed his opponent’s power shots. That’s exactly how the fight ended with Gamrot baiting Holtzman to come forward and then he just unloaded the right hand that put the Tennessee native down on the canvas for the final time.

Undefeated prior to his first loss inside the octagon, Gamrot remains a prospect to watch in the lightweight division as the Polish powerhouse proves he’s more than just a wrestler with the stunning knockout delivered at UFC Vegas 23.
