Dominican President Luis Abinader congratulated the Tigres del Licey team after winning this Friday, on behalf of his country, the 65th edition of the Caribbean Series held in the cities of Caracas and La Guaira in Venezuela.

“We won! Congratulations to the @TigresDelLicey for their triumph in the 2023 Caribbean Series, representing the Dominican Republic #PlátanoPower,” the governor wrote on his Twitter account.

Licey increased to 11 the number of Caribbean Series crowns it has conquered, the team with the most wins in the Caribbean classic, after defeating the local Leones del Caracas 0-3, before a packed Simón Bolívar La Rinconada Stadium, in the Venezuelan capital.

The Dominican Republic teams now have 22 titles to increase their lead in the so-called “Little World Series”.

Dominican Sports Minister Francisco Camacho expressed his “warmest” congratulations to the Tigers for winning the Caribbean Series.

“Today the country is celebrating with this new crown in the Caribbean Series. All the Dominican people followed minute by minute every game of the Tigres del Licey,” the official said on his Twitter account.

Dominican television images showed groups of fans celebrating the Licey victory in entertainment venues located in commercial plazas and neighborhoods of Santo Domingo.

The Tigres advanced to the semifinals with four wins in the round robin and defeated Mexico in a resounding 8-3 victory that put them in the final, from which they emerge as champions.

Teams from Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama and Curaçao, an island that participated for the first time, also took part in the competition.
