Despite the uncertainty due to the pandemic and the delays in the 2020 itinerary, the Colombian Cycling Federation published the national calendar of competitions in this discipline for 2021. In the document, 47 competitive events were scheduled that will once again be the cradle of the Colombian stars who compete in the most prestigious races.

Amid difficulties from future waves of the covid-19 virus, “Rigorously following the guidelines of the National Government and the ministries of sport and health, they have sought the appropriate space to configure the competitions of this year”, affirmed the federation.

However, he stressed that the calendar is susceptible to changes or postponements due to the uncertain evolution of the virus, which could result in lockdowns or restrictions on some activities.

Among the stellar attractions are the National road championships in the department of Risaralda, which will have the best Colombians and even competitors who succeed abroad. Sergio Higuita, from Education First, will participate to defend the title.

During the International Cycling Union Track Nations Cup (UCI), which will take place in June this year, and the International Track Tournament, which starts right after, will be seen in the contest to stars of international sports.

One of the sensitive casualties within this itinerary is the Tour Colombia 2.1. This race brought together the best teams in the world with figures such as Julian Alaphilippe, Richard Carapaz, Egan Bernal, Rigoberto Urán, Miguel Ángel López, Jonathan Caicedo, Daniel Martínez and Sergio Higuita.

The Federation decided to cancel it for 2021 due to the imminent peak that would come in the months of December and January. According to the authority, there would have been no point in postponing it because in later months the big ones would be running in Europe.
