This is how the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves will compete for the World Series crown

The next Major League Baseball champion will soon be crowned when the Atlanta Braves take on the Houston Astros in the best-of-seven World Series, starting Tuesday night.

The Astros recently won the World Series in 2017 and have been one of the most dominant and controversial teams in recent years. The Braves, for their part, have been consistently competitive in recent seasons, but they hadn’t reached the World Series since 1999.

Here’s what to know before the first launch.

Who plays

The Houston Astros won the AL West with a 95-67 record and are led by second baseman José Altuve, shortstop Carlos Correa and pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and Luis García.

They beat the Chicago White Sox in the best-of-five Division Series and then dropped the Boston Red Sox in the best-of-seven Championship Series to reach the World Series.

The Astros are not far from a cheating scandal in which they illegally created a system that deciphered and communicated the pitching signals of opposing teams during their championship season. The misconduct led to the firing of manager AJ Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow and made the Astros the team other fan bases love to hate.

Veteran manager Dusty Baker, 72, took over the Astros after the scandal and is now seeking his first World Series title as manager.

The Atlanta Braves made their way to the playoffs by winning the National League East with a disappointing 88-73 record, the fewest wins of any playoff team. They did so after a slow start to the season and despite losing one of their best players, Ronald Acuña Jr., who injured his ACL in July.

Once in the playoffs, the Braves defeated the Milwaukee Brewers with 95 wins in the best-of-five Division Series, and then defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, with 106 wins, in the best-of-seven Championship Series. , to get his place in the World Series.

The Braves will compete for their first World Series title since 1995, the franchise’s only championship while in Atlanta. They are led by last year’s MVP, first baseman Freddie Freeman, hitter Eddie Rosario and starting pitchers Charlie Morton and Max Fried.

Manager Brian Snitker is seeking his first World Series title while managing the team, and he will have to do it against a familiar face; his son Troy Snitker is Houston’s hitting coach.

Calendar

Game 1 will take place on Tuesday, October 26, followed by Game 2 on Wednesday, both at Minute Maid Park in Houston. Games 3, 4 and 5 will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Truist Park in Atlanta, and then Games 6 and 7 (if necessary) will be played in Houston on Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 of November.

All games will begin at 8:09 pm ET, except for Game 5, which will begin at 8:15 pm ET.

All games will be broadcast on television on Fox.

The field advantage is for Houston because it has the best record of the regular season. Therefore, games 1 and 2 will be played in Houston, followed by three games in Atlanta and then the last two in Houston.

Tickets

Tickets to attend the World Series matches will be, of course, expensive.

For Houston games, there are a “very limited” number of tickets available on the Astros website. Tickets on the secondary StubHub ticketing market start at $ 540 for Game 1 and $ 555 for Game 2 starting at noon Sunday.

For the games in Atlanta, tickets and parking for the World Series will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday morning at 10 am ET.

There will also be an exclusive pre-sale for those who sign up for the Braves email lists before the end of Sunday, the team said. Those who purchase a membership for the A-List 2022 season can also secure tickets to this year’s World Series, the Braves said.
