Novak Djokovic said goodbye to Monte Carlo Masters 1000 and ended with a series of positive statistics that accompanied him up to here. The Serbian, world number 1, fell in the round of 16 of the tournament on brick dust against the British Daniel Evans for 6-4 and 7-5.

The 33-year-old tennis player accumulated a year and a half without defeats in tournaments of this category, taking into account that he had been eliminated in October 2019 in the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 in Shanghai by the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipás.

During this journey, he had been crowned champion in Rome, Cincinnati and Paris.

Novak, con 36 crowns, is the highest winner in history in the competitions of this denomination: he could be equaled in this same tournament by Rafael Nadal.

In addition, one of the owners of world tennis for the last decade accumulated ten wins in a row on the circuit: two wins at the Melbourne ATP Cup in February, seven successes to take over the Australia Open and victory in Monte Carlo’s debut against Italian Jannik Sinner (6-4, 6-2).

His previous defeat had developed at the end of November 2020: Dominic Thiem beat him in the semi-finals of the ATP Finals.

Novak’s career totals, however, are monstrous: 944 wins since his professional debut against 193 losses and with 82 titles.

The consolation for him will be that you will not be able to lose your status as number 1 in the world, taking into account that the second on the list, the Russian Daniil Medvedev, was absent from this appointment for having contracted coronavirus.

Regarding the tournament draw, Evans will now face in the quarterfinals David Goffin, who also gave a surprise blow to leave the German on the road Alexander Zverev. The Belgian representative has been holding important results against senior rivals in Monte Carlo: he has already fired Marin Cilic already Marco Cecchinato.

The other confirmed duel of the quarterfinals will be kept by the Greek Tsitsipás against spanish Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Yet all eyes are on Rafael Nadal, top winner of this event with 11 titles. He faces the Bulgarian in the round of 16 Grigor Dimitrov.
