Madrid, 19 Feb. Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs will be the referee for the match between Liverpool and Real Madrid, corresponding to the first leg of the knockout stages of the Champions League which will be played this Tuesday at Anfield stadium.
Kovacs, an international since 2010, will be helped on the wings by compatriots Vasile Florin Marinescu and Ovidiu Artene, while the fourth official will be Horatiu Fesnic, also from Romania. Italians Massimiliano Irrati and Marco Guida will be responsible for VAR.
The Romanian referee already led Real Madrid in the Champions League last season when he visited Manchester City on April 26, 2022, with a final result of 4-3 for the English.
This season, Kovacs led Dinamo Zagreb-Chelsea (1-0), Brugge-Atlético de Madrid (2-0) and Bayer Leverkusen-Porto (0-3).
