The Spanish Paula Badosa, withdrawn in the second round of the Toronto tournament due to injury, gave the Greek Maria Sakkari third place in the world tennis ranking, which continues to be headed by the Polish Iga Swiatek ahead of the Estonian Anett Kontaveit.
Badosa, who started as the fourth seed in the Canadian Masters, suffered an injury last Wednesday during her match against the Kazakh Yelina Putintseva and had to leave the tournament.
Her victory in Toronto – the third of her career – went to the Romanian Simona Halep, who beat the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia in the final.
Halep, former world number 1 and now with 25 titles to her name, rises nine places in the ranking to sixth, while Haddad Maia, the first Brazilian to reach the final of a WTA 1,000 tournament, rises eight to 16.
The Spanish Garbiñe Muguruza loses one place and is now eighth, while Sara Sorribes gives up seven to 48.
