Swiss watchmaker Hublot, sponsor of Novak Djokovic, believes getting vaccinated is a personal choice , the firm’s boss told Reuters after the world’s No. 1 men’s tennis player, who is not vaccinated against COVID-19, was expelled from Australia this month.

Djokovic was expelled from Australia on January 16 , before the Australian Open, after losing a legal appeal to annul the cancellation of his visa, and returned to his native Serbia, where he was received with enthusiasm.

In his first comments on the incident, Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe said the brand, owned by French luxury conglomerate LVMH, was looking forward to hearing from Djokovic about his experience.

” We are waiting to see what his position is regarding everything he lived through,” he said in an interview.

” The principle of vaccines is that it is something private. We value personal freedom, each one can decide, one can be for or against, that is our position, ” he added.

Guadalupe said he believed Djokovic would make a statement at the end of the tournament in Australia, which ends on January 30.

” Then we will define our position ” he concluded.
