Former American basketball player Sam Jones, one of the Boston Celtics figures in winning 10 titles, has died at the age of 88, the North American franchise reported.
Jones went down in Celtics history for being part of the team that established a true dynasty in the 1960s. In that group he averaged 17.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, which led him to be part of the Hall of Fame since 1984.
Jones conquered 10 NBA rings from 1959 to 1966, 1968 and 1969, surpassed only by his teammate and iconic Celtics center Bill Russell with 11 NBA titles.
“Sam Jones will be remembered as one of the most prolific champions in all of professional sports,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
