“I want all your belts”: Venado Lopez issues warning to division champions after beating Conlan

Venado Lopez indicated that he was very happy for the great performance he gave along with Conlan to the public present in Ireland and grateful for the treatment he received from the fans.

Luis Alberto ‘Venado’ Lopez successfully defended his International Boxing Federation (IBF) featherweight title against Michael Conlan after knocking him out in the fifth round of the fight at the SSE Arena in Belfast (Ireland). Now, the Mexican is targeting all the champions of the category and warns that he will take his belts home.

“I hope all the world champions in the featherweight division are ready for ‘Venado’ Lopez. I’m going after all of them. I want all their belts. One by one, I’m taking all their belts to Mexico,” he said in statements compiled by BoxingScene.

It should be noted that the current featherweight champions are: Mexican Rey Vargas, of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Robeysi Ramirez, of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and Leigh Wood, of the World Boxing Association (WBA); the last two have already expressed interest in facing him.

About the fight, Venado Lopez said he was very happy for the great performance he gave to the public present in Ireland and grateful for the treatment he received from the fans. He also wished Conlan the best of luck.

“It was an excellent atmosphere to fight in. The energy was unbelievable. The Irish boxing fans treated me very well, so I’m glad Mick and I could give them a great fight. I wish Conlan the best of luck moving forward, and I hope he recovers and comes back very soon,” he said.

For his part, the Irish fighter, who lost his second chance to become world champion, affirmed that the Mexican fighter hits hard and showed his respect.

“Lopez had my respect before the fight and he still has my respect after the fight. He hits very hard. He just beat me. He travels well and is a great champion,” he commented.

In a fight that started with a lot of action from both boxers, Venado Lopez completely dominated Conlan who, in the face of the champion’s barrage of punches, tried to dodge them by moving and ducking his head. The Mexican took advantage of this in the fifth round and with a powerful hook sent the Irishman to the canvas, forcing his corner to throw in the towel.

Luis Alberto ‘Venado’ Lopez, 29, defended his title for the first time and now has a record of 28 wins (16 by knockout) and 2 setbacks. On the other hand, Michael Conlan lost another opportunity to be crowned featherweight champion. The Irish fighter has a record of 18 wins (9 by knockout) and two defeats.
