The Liga MX semifinals were defined after Club América overwhelmed Puebla with a global score of 11-2 and will face Toluca, who defeated Santos Laguna. On the other hand, the Rayados del Monterrey thrashed Cruz 3-0 in the second leg and will face Pachuca who eliminated Tigres UANL with a 2-2 draw, which gave them the classification after finishing top of the table.
So the semifinals are as follows:
América VS Toluca (First leg will be on Wednesday, October 19 at the Nemesio Díez and the return leg on Saturday, October 22 at the Azteca Stadium)
Rayados de Monterrey VS Pachuca (First leg will be played on Wednesday, October 19 at the Hidalgo Stadium and the return will be on October 22 at the BBVA Stadium in Monterrey)
The Club América match against Toluca is a confrontation between old acquaintances from the Liguilla and who have faced each other 7 times in this phase. Toluca has defeated the Eagles five times, so America will be looking to improve their numbers against the Red Devils.
América reaches the semifinal being one of the best teams in the tournament and also thrashed Puebla 11-2, being a record score. For its part, Toluca began the path to the title from the playoffs, after it was seventh, an instance in which it surpassed FC Juárez to later pass over Santos.
In the other semifinal, Monterrey and Pachuca have been more even in Liguilla. Los Tuzos have won the series 3 times, while Monterrey 2 times.
Both teams met on the last day of Apertura 2022, in which they divided units after a scoreless draw on the BBVA Stadium pitch. Both achieved direct pass to the quarterfinals. The Rayados, in second place, reached the semifinals after eliminating Cruz Azul, while the Tuzos went through Tigres to reach the prelude to the final.
During the regular phase, only 3 points separated these teams in the table for what is expected to be two close matches where mistakes could make a difference for any of them.
