Several sources describe the crime of Bidó García as the first to take place in New York in 2023

Former basketball player and player for the Dominican Republic national team, Sergio “Bidó” García, was murdered this Sunday after receiving a stab wound, just hours after the New Year’s celebration in the Bronx.

According to reports from the local police, ‘Bidó’ García, 63, received a knife attack in the middle of a heated argument over a parking space.

Subsequently, the attacker, who has not yet been captured, ran away leaving García as the first victim of the crime in 2023, according to some media reports.

In addition to the crime, a woman was also injured in the event but is currently out of danger.

The authorities are searching for the murderer and are apparently investigating a video showing the beginning of a fight over the parking space of a black van that belonged to García.

After the unfortunate news was known, the Dominican Basketball Federation published a message on its social networks where they mourned the death of the athlete born in Villa Duarte.

“We want God to give strength to his family and friends. Peace to his soul “, was the message dedicated to the nicknamed ‘Bidó’.

In García’s career, he was crowned champion with Arroyo Hondo in the Superior Basketball Tournament in the Dominican Republic and also lifted the Cup in the 1983 National Games. His experience was also essential to play in other provinces and in the Professional Basketball League in Venezuela.

García is also remembered for starting his sporting career in boxing, where he was a national champion in the heavyweight category.
