Novak Djokovic was eliminated this Tuesday in his entry into the 2nd round of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 by the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich (46th) 6-3, 6-7 (5/7), 6-1.
The world number one was playing his fourth match on tour , after three at the ATP 500 in Dubai, since his defeat in the Masters Semifinals in mid-November 2021 and after not being able to play the Australian Open or the Masters 1000 from Indian Wells and Miami for not being vaccinated against covid-19.

At the end of last season he had reached the Davis Cup Semi – Finals with Serbia , which Daniil Medvedev ‘s Russia won by beating Croatia. This elimination in the 2nd round represents his worst performance in Monte Carlo since 2016 , when he lost in that round against the Czech Jiri Vesely.
Since his second Monegasque Masters title in 2015 , the Serbian has not made it past the Quarters. For his part, Davidovich will face British Daniel Evans (27th) or Belgian David Goffin (47th) in the next round.
