The Spanish international Iago Aspas extended his contract with Celta de Vigo for two more years this Monday, until June 2025, the Galician entity reported through a press release.

“Galicia Day, Santiago Apóstol Day, Iago Aspas Day. For RC Celta and its fans, this July 25 is not only the Galician Fatherland Day, it is the day on which the Príncipe das Bateas unites his destiny with that of the club”, highlights the club chaired by Carlos Mouriño.

Aspas, top scorer in sky blue history and winner of four Zarra Trophies, has played 418 games with Celta, scoring a total of 184 goals.

He debuted with the sky-blue first team in June 2008, and a year later he scored a historic double against Deportivo Alavés in Balaídos, which meant mathematical permanence in the Second Division.

From then on, his role increased, until he became the most important player in Celta’s history ahead of his idol, the Russian Aleksandr Mostovoi.

In 2013 he was transferred to Liverpool for 10 million euros. After a year at Anfield and another in Seville, he returned to the club of his life to play in two Copa del Rey semi-finals, a historic Europa League semi-final against Manchester United and win four Zarra Trophies in LaLiga.
