The Cuban goalkeeper of the Porto handball team, Alfredo Quintana, died today in Portugal, where he was admitted in a very serious condition after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest on Monday.
Quintana, born in Havana 32 years ago, suffered the stoppage during training and since then has been being treated in the intensive care unit of Hospital São João.
After confirming his death, his team shared a message of condolences on social networks in which they assure that the Cuban will be “always remembered” in the group.
Alfredo Quintana lived in his native country until 2009. He arrived at FC Oporto a decade ago and in 2014, after becoming Portuguese national, he made his debut with the Portuguese team, with which he accumulated 72 international matches.
Last january, Quintana had a relevant role with the Portugal team in the Handball World Cup in Egypt.
