Restrictions in Catalonia due to COVID: new measures, confinement and what can be done

Perimeter confines

One of the great measures that entered into force on January 7, and will be extended until January 24, is the municipal confinement of all towns from Monday to Sunday. Movement outside the place of residence is prohibited except for the good reasons that are already known.

In addition, the cperimeter closure of the region, while the limit of people in social gatherings remains at a maximum of six. For its part, the night curfew is maintained between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m..

Shops and restaurants

Regarding the shops, during the weekends only those considered essential will remain open, such as supermarkets and pharmacies. They will also be closed shops whose surface area exceeds 400 square meters, in addition to gyms and shopping centers

Bars and restaurants may open as before, to serve Breakfasts and lunches from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., respectively. As for dinners, they may offer pick-up service at the premises between 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., while home delivery ends at 11:00 p.m.. The terraces and the interior can open with a maximum capacity of 30%, with social distance between them and a maximum of four people.

Culture and leisure

Cinemas, theaters, auditoriums, concert halls, museums and exhibitions allow 50% of the capacity, with a maximum of a thousand people. Bookstores must close on weekends and the capacity for religious events is limited to 30%, not exceeding a thousand people in any case. Equally, extracurricular activities are suspended, except those carried out in the educational centers themselves and with the same groups.

Situation in Catalonia

In the last 24 hours, Catalonia has registered 4,473 new cases of coronavirus, so the total number of the community since the beginning of the pandemic is 444,563. In addition, they have passed away 122 more people due to the coronavirus. Meanwhile, the playback speed (rt) has increased to 1.32, while the PCR positivity rate is 10.97%.

In the words of Councilor Alba Vergés, about 500 people are currently in Catalan ICUs, a number they believe could rise in the coming days.
