“I usually have more victories than defeats for one reason: when human beings are right, God is their lawyer”
Silvio Santos is a presenter and businessman, one of the pioneers of TV in Brazil and one of the country’s most famous personalities.
He debuted in 1962 with Vamos Brincar de Forca, on TV Paulista, a station that would later be incorporated into Globo, consolidating a style of program that combined shows, spectacles and games.
In the following years, the format gave rise to the Silvio Santos Program, one of the most traditional on TV. In the 1970s, he moved to Tupi and invested in developing his own channel.
At the end of that decade, he created TVS, which in 1981 gave rise to SBT. In the following years, Silvio Santos’ channel consolidated its position in second place in the ratings throughout Brazil.
As well as owning the channel and other Grupo Silvio Santos ventures, such as Baú da Felicidade, he continued to be a constant presence on video, at the helm of other big hits, such as Casa dos Artistas (2001-04) and Show do Milhão (1999-2003).
He was married to Maria Aparecida Vieira Abravanel from 1962 to 1977, when he became a widower. During his first marriage, he had Cíntia and Silvia Abranavel. In 1978, he married Íris Abravanel, with whom he had four other daughters: Daniela, Patrícia, Rebeca and Renata Abravanel.
