A turning point in Luis Miguel’s career was when he achieved international recognition for his duet with legendary Frank Sinatra with song Come Fly with Me.
The melody can be found in the album Sinatra Duets II, but the viewers of the Netflix series wanted to know how the encounter between two stars who represent a worldwide musical quality originated and managed.
It all starts with the businessman Miguel Alemán Magnani, one of the singer’s best friends.
This one stands out for being grandson of former president Miguel Alemán Valdés, in the six-year term from 1946 to 1952. He is also the son of former Veracruz governor Miguel Alemán Velasco from 1998 to 2004 and former model Christiane Magnani, winner of the 1953 Miss Universe pageant.
The singer and the businessman met during their teens. The Alemán, at that time were shareholders of Televisa Group, For this reason, the grandson of the former president frequently attended the big events of the television station, and therefore, he related to the highlights of the show. In addition, both constantly visited the port of Acapulco.
According to the bioseries, the meeting between Luis Miguel and Sinatra took place thanks to the intervention of Christiane Magnani, who between 1954 and 1955 was married to Ronnie Marengo, man who managed to introduce her to Hollywood, an environment of many contacts and celebrities.
In fiction, it is said that Miguel Alemán Velasco’s wife was a friend of Sinatra, who told him about the idea of doing a duet with a Latin American singer for his duet album, for which Magnani recommended the singer of “Now you can to March”.
Although Frank Sinatra initially showed a challenging attitude, Luis Miguel convinced him of the collaboration by interpreting Miss you, song composed by Armando Manzanero. Some time later, they both recorded the song from a distance Come Fly With Me.
Although there is no official version that confirms if this was the first meeting of the two singers, yes there is evidence of an emotional moment they had during a tribute to Frank Sinatra held during 1995 at the Shrine Auditorium, in Los Angeles.
During this event, the Mexican singer spoke about the impact that Frank Sinatra has had on his life: “I am very happy to be here tonight because, as a child, I had the opportunity to listen to the songs of Frank Sinatra, so i think i learned english from her songs”Luis Miguel told the interpreter of My Way, who was moved by these words.
“And I mean that 10 years later I had the opportunity to sing in an album of his which is the Duets II, that was like a dream come true. So happy birthday, Frank. Thank you. I hope you all come fly with me tonight,” he added. Later, Luis Miguel interpreted Come Fly With Me for all the spectators inside the enclosure.
