Sofia Vergara in the spotlight again with embryo case
Although Sofia Vergara has recently attracted attention with the decision to separate with her husband Joe Manganiello, this is not the only problem of the famous star. Vergara’s embryo case, which has been endless for years, is on the agenda again.
Famous star Sofia Vergara had an enviable marriage with Joe Manganiello, whom she married in 2015. However, in recent days, the duo has attracted attention with separation news. Moreover, this divorce is not Vergara’s only problem.
The famous star has been dealing with an extremely interesting case for years, and with the divorce news coming to the agenda, this old case also attracted attention again.
HE DID IT TO START A FAMILY IN THE FUTURE, IT BECAME A PROBLEM FOR HIM
It all started in 2013, in the third year of their love, when they created two embryos. At the time, Vergara explained that she was not yet ready to start a family with her lover, but that when the time came, they would have to use a surrogate, as she had undergone radiation years earlier.
Unfortunately, a year later, their relationship ended and the embryos became the subject of a years-long lawsuit that turned into a vendetta. Loeb filed a lawsuit to stop Vergara from destroying the embryos after they broke up in 2014.
The Hollywood star, on the other hand, stated that her ex-lover filed the lawsuit just to gain fame.
Despite Vergara’s claims, and even despite the fact that she has moved on with a new love, Nick Loeb continues to fight for the embryos.
While Vergara is resorting to this method because she will have to use a surrogate if they want to have a child because she has thyroid cancer and receives too much radiation, she also states that she actually has some agreements with Loeb.
EX-FIANCÉE INSISTS ON EMBRYOS
According to court documents, the couple tried to implant two eggs in a surrogate mother during their relationship, but the procedure failed twice. They then froze the other two.
Loeb claimed in the lawsuit that Sofia told him she was pro-life and promised that each embryo created would eventually be placed in a surrogate.
The couple had also signed documents stating that if one of them died, the embryos would have to be destroyed. However, Loeb claimed in the lawsuit that his ex-fiancée berated him until he signed the documents. The lawsuit also revealed that there was no agreement between them about what would happen to the frozen eggs if they ended their relationship.
While the case was ongoing, the two gave frequent interviews against each other. “I created these two female embryos not to destroy them, but to give birth to them, because I have always dreamed of being a father,” Loeb said, adding that he wanted to use them to have children of his own, with or without his ex’s participation.
TURNED INTO A BLOOD FEUD
Loeb also said in an interview: “I take the responsibility and obligation of being a parent very seriously. If a man really wants to be a father and doesn’t want to burden the other person with any responsibility, he should have that right.”
In another interview, Loeb said: “A lot of people have asked me, ‘Why don’t you go ahead and have your own family?’ I have every intention of doing that. But that doesn’t mean that I should let the two lives I’ve already created disappear or that they should sit in the freezer forever. I asked him to give me the embryos, offering to cover all the costs to give birth and raise our daughters… He refused.”
Vergara has said in interviews that she doesn’t think it is wise to have children if the parents are not in a loving relationship: “More than a mother, a child needs a loving relationship with parents who don’t hate each other, who get along well. I don’t hate her, but she obviously has a problem with me…”
FIGHTING FOR EMBRYOS BUT HAD AN ABORTION
Finally, in December 2016, the case took a turn and Nick Loeb withdrew the case after it was revealed that he had gotten two women pregnant and then had abortions. The judge said he wanted to question both women in court. Loeb claimed that his beliefs about the right to life began as a result of the abortions.
But the duo’s lawsuit is still not over. Loeb has filed a new lawsuit claiming that the embryos, whom he calls ‘Emma’ and ‘Isabella’ in court documents, have the right to live.
In the lawsuit, he stated that Isabella and Emma were deprived of their inheritance by not being born and that they should be allowed to live in order to receive this money.
LAWSUITS CONTINUE, BUT ARE THE EMBRYOS INTACT?
To increase his chances of winning, Loeb even began renting a residence in Louisiana, a state that offers special legal protections for frozen embryos. Although that case also ended in Vergara’s favor because neither party lives in the state, Loeb is now suing the fertility clinic they used.
Although the case is ongoing, it is not known if the embryos are still intact.
