Multi-award-winning Mexican music supervisor Lynn Fainchtein, a collaborator on Oscar-nominated films such as “Roma,” “Amores Perros” and “Birdman,” has died in Madrid.
Fainchtein, born in Mexico in 1963, was a broadcaster for Rock 101, programming director for MTV Latin America and music supervisor for films such as “The Revenant”, “Babel” and “Precious”, as well as the series “Élite”, “Sr. Ávila”, “Dark” and “Club de Cuervos” and the Cirque du Soleil show “Luzia”.
The music distributor Casete, of which she was co-founder, confirmed her death on social networks and in messages to The Associated Press.
“We are infinitely grateful for all the years, efforts, mentoring and ideas she gave us. Lynn was a person full of light and music. We are sure he would have wanted nothing more than for the party to go on,” the company noted in its release.
Fainchtein collaborated on all of director Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s films. He also used to participate in the projects of Gael García Bernal, Diego Luna, Luis Estrada and had supervised the music for Amat Escalante’s most recent film, “Perdidos en la noche”.
The popular films “Los 33”, “Una película de huevos”, “Miss Bala” and “Salvando al Soldado Pérez” also counted with his participation.
She studied psychology and during her time at Rock 101 presented programs on gospel, jazz, women in rock and Afro-Antillean rhythms. She was also a film producer and journalist.
Among those who remembered her fondly was musician and music producer Gustavo Santaolalla who thanked her for having called him for the soundtrack of “Amores perros”, Iñárritu’s first feature film nominated for best original screenplay.
Journalist Lydia Cacho tweeted: “With this smile of creative genius and good person. This is how I want to remember @Lynnfainchtein.”
“It’s a huge loss for those of us who love music and for me personally because Lynn was my inspiration to become a broadcaster,” Mexican broadcaster Lucila Zetina wrote on social networks.
Fainchtein’s career was so prolific that projects in which she collaborated are yet to be released, the series “Cien Años de Soledad” and “Las azules”.
