Jonathan Majors to stand trial on domestic violence allegations

The year that promised to take off Jonathan Majors’ career will now become one of scandal. After being arrested on a charge of domestic violence against a woman, authorities in New York, where the altercation occurred, have decided to continue with the process and have already set a date for a trial against him on charges of assault and harassment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jonathan Majors could spend up to a year in prison if he is found guilty of the assault and harassment charges that the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is preparing against him. A court decided to move forward with the legal process at a hearing that his lawyers had hoped would dismiss the charges against their client. Now, they decided to fight it and seek to sue the one who charged him. This is what his defense says:

We are confident that the district attorney is reviewing these materials [photos and videos Majors’ team sent to prove that he was the one who was attacked by her] in good faith and will do the right thing very soon. To expedite our case, we have asked for a trial date so that the trial will be as soon as possible.

The media outlet reports that in a very brief hearing, Majors appeared in person at the Manhattan courthouse where August 3 was set as the date on which the trial will begin. As you know, the woman he allegedly attacked sustained minor head and neck injuries. She was also granted a protective order preventing Majors from having any contact with her.

Majors was poised to be the star of the year. 2023 kicked off with three major projects for him. The first was his debut as the villain Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (60%), the big antagonist of the new era of Marvel movies. It is known that he had already shot his scenes for the second season of Loki (96%), a title that will premiere on Disney Plus in the fall.

That film continued the momentum of his career after receiving very positive reviews for Magazine Dreams, a psychological thriller in which he plays a man obsessed with bodybuilding who sees his mental stability decline as he prepares for an important competition. This project was slated for release later this year after being acquired by Searchlight, an imprint of 20th Century Studios.

The other was as Dame in Creed III (90%). This Michael B. Jordan-directed sports drama saw him play an old childhood friend of Donnie’s, who returns to cause him trouble after being released from prison and also pursuing a career in boxing. It was the last to be released before he was arrested, a situation that cost him another film that was on the way and being dropped from a commercial.

At the moment, Marvel Studios has failed to take a stance on these issues and will most likely want to wait to see what comes out of the trial as Majors is an important part of their plans. We will have to wait for the trial to begin in August, for this the actor will have to appear in court and if he fails to do so a warrant for his arrest could be issued.
