What is an aneurysm like the one suffered by the German influencer?
According to Stanford Medicine, an aneurysm is a weakened bulge in the wall of a blood vessel that causes abnormal dilation or distension greater than 50 percent of the normal diameter.
An aneurysm can be located in various areas of the body, such as in the blood vessels of the brain, the aorta (the largest artery in the body, making it the most common), intestines, kidneys, spleen, and blood vessels in the legs.
The exact cause of an aneurysm is unknown; however, it is believed that atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) plays an important role in this pathology.
Atherosclerosis may be caused by factors such as advanced age, family history, high blood fat, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, and obesity.
