The US government indicated that it hopes to soon have “a good sign of the efficacy” of Pfizer’s vaccine against COVID-19 for children between six months and five years, for which it indicated, they could be ready to be administered by the end of February.

This was stated at a press conference by Jeff Zients, the chief coordinator of the White House pandemic response team, noting that work is already being done so that they can be distributed throughout the country “between five and 11 days” after regulators offer their approval, something expected by the middle of the month.

The American pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and its partner BioNTech requested this Tuesday the emergency authorization in the United States of their vaccine against covid-19 for children between six months and five years, and that if approved it would be the first for this age group.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has convened for February 15 the meeting of its advisory committee to review the data provided by pharmaceutical companies on the safety and efficacy of two doses of three micrograms in children of this age range, as part of a three-dose series.

“We are anticipating that we will receive a good signal of efficacy that allows the use of vaccines in children under five years of age,” Anthony Fauci, chief epidemiologist of the White House, said at the same conference.

However, Fauci stressed that this serum designed especially for that age group is being reviewed “very carefully” by regulators, so it is necessary to wait for their recommendation.
