The United States closed a border crossing with Canada after a vehicle exploded at a checkpoint at a bridge near Niagara Falls, authorities said Wednesday.
The FBI’s Buffalo office said in a statement that it is investigating the explosion at the Rainbow Bridge, which links the two countries over the Niagara River.
Photos and news media videos posted on social media show a security post on fire.
New York State Governor Kathy Hochul said she has been notified of the event and is “monitoring the situation closely.”
No further information was initially available.
The Rainbow Bridge is one of four border crossings between western New York State and the Canadian province of Ontario.
The others are the Lewiston, Whirlpool and Peace Bridges.
The Niagara Bridge Commission reported that all crossings are closed.
