The U.S. government has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine, the 39th since the beginning of the war, which includes a disbursement of 300 million dollars in armaments.
The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, thanked the US for the aid, which he considers “extremely important and timely to protect Ukrainian skies from Russian missiles and terror”.
He has also welcomed the “unwavering” US support and celebrated the “strength” of bilateral relations between the two countries, he said on his official account on the social network Twitter.
The new aid package, announced hours earlier by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, includes “significant air defense capabilities, additional ammunition for high-mobility artillery rocket systems, anti-tank weapons, tens of millions of rounds of small arms ammunition and other essential field equipment.”
Moreover, during a press conference, the White House National Security Advisor, John Kirby, assured that the new aid is given in response to the recent Russian attacks on Ukrainian soil, especially in the capital, which in recent weeks has received numerous air attacks, most of them blocked precisely by the air defense systems provided by the Americans.
For Kirby, this continued assistance is a clear example of the efforts resulting from the meetings of the G7 leaders during the Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, where the Ukrainian president also made a surprise appearance as a special guest.
