Kamala Harris now has a running mate. Meet Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor who has been chosen by the Democrat for vice president.

A few days before the Democratic National Convention, the candidate for the presidency of the United States, Kamala Harris, chooses her running mate: the governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, as advanced by CNN and The New York Times.

After Joe Biden’s exit from the race, Walz was among the first Democrats to show his support for Harris as a possible candidate. “Thanks for the call, Kamala Harris. You have my full support. We are going to win this,” he wrote via social media.

Kamala Harris won the Democratic nomination for U.S. president a couple of days ago, so this afternoon she will deliver an acceptance speech from a rally in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As for her running mate, the candidate will release a video later Tuesday to make the official announcement.

Who is Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor chosen by Kamla Harris for vice president?

Tim Walz, the current governor of Minnesota, is noted for being a military veteran and union advocate. During his time as governor, he has taken it upon himself to promote an avid Democratic agenda in his state.

The vice presidential candidate was born on April 6, 1964, in West Point, Nebraska, where he graduated from Chadron State University with a degree in social sciences. He later worked as a teacher at a local school, where he met his wife Gwen Whipple. In 1994, they married and decided to move to Minnesota two years later.

Already settled in his new home, Walz decided to take the leap into politics as a volunteer on John Kerry’s presidential campaign in 2004. Two years later, he ran for Congress and took office in 2007 after defeating Republican Gil Gutknecht. As a congressman, Walz was a fierce advocate for veterans’ rights, having served in the Army National Guard for 24 years, where he rose to the rank of command sergeant major.
