The United States on Friday urged its citizens to “immediately” leave the gates of the Kabul airport , where this week a suicide bomber attacked crowds trying to flee Taliban rule.

Earlier on Friday, the Pentagon said the risky evacuation operation by Americans and Afghan allies continued to face “specific and credible threats.”

US citizens who are now in the door of Abbey, on the East gate at the north gate or at the door of the new Ministry of the Interior must leave immediately , “ said the embassy of the United States in Kabul in a security alert .

At least 170 civilians and 13 US soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber detonated a bomb in the dense crowd outside an airport gate.

Some media outlets reported that the fatalities would approach 200.

US officials said gunmen opened fire after the blast.

The attack was carried out by the violent Afghan wing of the Islamic State group , ISIS-K .

Following the attack, US President Joe Biden promised retaliation.

“We will not forgive. We will not forget. We will hunt them down and make them pay, ”he said.

On Friday afternoon, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby warned that the group allegedly planned to attack the airlift again.
